This English language learning series has been specially designed to build new arrivals' skills and confidence in English, using Clicker's multimedia technologies to enhance well-established language learning techniques. New to English will get your new arrivals speaking English!

Each CD is focused on a particular environment that new arrivals need to become familiar with: At School, In the House, In the Street ,At the Supermarket and At the Shopping Centre. Children explore the setting and engage in a range of activities that involve active listening, speaking, reading and writing.
The activities are specifically designed to aid development of vocabulary, sentence structure and functional English. They present consistent English language examples, developing in small incremental steps to help the learner communicate in English and to develop skills that are necessary to access the curriculum.
New to English can be used by an adult working with a child or group, and by individuals for practice and consolidation. Learners work at their own pace and build up their skills and confidence in a comfortable and secure setting. For example, in many activities children listen to recorded words or phrases, and then record themselves saying the same words, repeating their recording as many times as they wish.
The materials have been carefully developed with Dawn Lama, a specialist in the use of ICT to support English language learning. Dawn Lama works for Coventry Local Authority Minority Group Support Services as an Area Manager, with particular responsibility for the Primary National Strategy English as an Additional Language Programme. She is a specialist in the use of ICT to support English language learning.
The pictures have been specially drawn by cartoonist Andy Dixon and are designed to appeal to a wide age range within the primary school setting.

What activities are included?
Each CD offers a wide range of activities for English language learning. In these examples, children have the opportunity to explore hotspots, record their voices, read and write - all with the support of Clicker.

In this activity children are introduced to reading the words they have met - they are encouraged to look carefully as they match picture and words. They can also record themselves reading out each word. |

This activity focuses on first writing skills. Children label objects in the scene - they look at a scene and add the word labels to the objects in the picture.
