Overview
For
children and adults whose first language is not English, Clicker can provide valuable support with both speech feedback as well
as recorded sound in their native or home language.
Visit our website of free resources at www.LearningGrids.com to
view the category of grids ideal for use with ESL. Simply click
on the resources and download them to use as they are, or tailor
them to the needs of your specific users.
Other ESL teaching ideas for Clicker are:
- Color-code cells to distinguish parts of speech or
sentences. This provides a clear structure for language learners
to work within, so they can focus very tightly on specific
skills, such as grammar, sentence building, story building.
- Use Clicker's speech support so learners can see the
word/phrase, listen to it, write, and then listen to a completed
sentence. Learners have instant feedback on what they have
written.
- Attach real, recorded speech sound files to cells - this enables
you to use the learner's native/home
language as well as in English. Because sound files can be attached
to either or both left and right mouse clicks, you can attach
a sound file in English and the home language to read or translate
the text. This helps to improve speaking skills as the learner
is hearing real speech.
- Use graphics, including animated graphics, to provide
additional visual support and stimulation for language learning.
Clicker allows the learner to focus on important LANGUAGE learning
skills - hearing, seeing and writing using whole words, phrases
and sentences, rather than "secretarial" skills such as handwriting.
